NOW THAT YOU KNOW

Thursday 15th May – Thursday of the 4th week of Easter

Reflection: John 13: 16-20

NOW THAT YOU KNOW

Studying the Scriptures gives us an insight into God’s heart. We come to know how He desires us to live as His children and indeed, we have a high calling. We are called to do much more than what human nature requires. Above all, we are called to love selflessly.

Christ told the apostles in today’s reading: “now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” (John 13:17)  These words of our Saviour holds true for you and I today. While we deceive ourselves by being only hearers but not doers of God’s Word (James 1:23), we are blessed if we live out the truths of God’s word (James 1:25). As our knowledge of His Word increases, our sincere desire and efforts to live out this Word should increase.

Beloved, we may be convicted of certain sinful patterns in our life through our study of God’s word. Let us submit to Him in humility and trust and ask Him to help us live out these truths in our everyday life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I submit myself to you anew. Please strengthen me to live out the truth of your Word in my everyday life. Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 25 – Why does the faith require definitions and formulas?

Faith is not about empty words but about reality. In the Church condensed formulas of faith developed over the course of time; with their help we can contemplate, express, learn, hand on, celebrate, and live out this reality.

HIDE A TREASURE: “He who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.” James 1:25 RSV-CE

Readings for today: Acts 13: 13-25; Psalm 89: 2-3, 21-27; John 13: 16-20
