Friday 6th June – Friday of the 7th week of Easter
Reflection: John 21:15-19
A PROOF OF LOVE
Beloved in Christ, the Christian life is such that it calls us daily to embrace the love of Christ and be willing to imitate his life on earth. All Christ did on earth is summed up in his selfless love for us. A love that led Him to die for us when we were yet sinners.
Jesus’ intention in asking Simon Peter the questions he did in today’s reading was to let Simon know what love is really about. To love someone is to help the person experience Christ who is love himself. Love is itself God’s nature which man is able to share through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). To feed and look after the sheep as Christ told Peter is to nurture others around us with the beauty and riches of our faith and help to keep alive the fire of God’s love in their heart. This can only be done when we passionately look for the good of our neighbor and never give up on our own shortcomings. Our love for Christ is proven not by how much knowledge we have about Christ but how this knowledge has affected and drawn others to him.
Dear friend, let us take a bold step of faith today to share whatever we have received from Christ through his grace at work in us. Christ is our good shepherd and we all are his sheep. Take out time to listen to Christ every day so that you can know what He has to say to you and who he desires that you reach out to. Someone out there is waiting to meet Christ through you.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, let your love spread through me to my neighbor. Amen.
KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 127 What does it mean to say that the Church is the “Bride of Christ”?
Jesus Christ loves the Church as a bridegroom loves his bride. He binds himself to her forever and gives his life for her.
