FAITHFULNESS TO GOD

Saturday 9th August – Saturday of week 18 of the year

Reflection: Habakkuk 1:12 – 2:4

FAITHFULNESS TO GOD

We only need to honestly take a look at our lives to realize that God is faithful. Over and over again, Scripture recounts the faithfulness of God and if we take time to look back on our lives and those of those close to us, we will find life situations in which God simply demonstrated His faithfulness. What should be our response to the faithfulness of God? How can we pay Him back for his great mercy and love for us?

There is indeed nothing you and I can give to God as a sort of “payment” for his faithfulness because whatever we have proceeds from Him. However, our response to God’s faithfulness is faithfulness to Him. Faithfulness to God implies that we hold our allegiance to Him above everything else. Think of the faithfulness that should exist between a married couple. A married man is to hold his wife and family above everything else. Any form of close relations with some other woman breaches this faithfulness.

You and I, baptized into Christ are members of His body, the Church. We are the bride of Christ whom he loves with an everlasting love. Are we faithful to Him? Do we strive to uphold and live out His commands or are we allowing the world to interfere with our allegiance to Christ? In the midst of difficult situations do we persevere in prayers or do we seek alternatives to obeying God? Dear friend, even in difficult situations, let us make faithfulness to God our watchword. We may face troubles and persecutions in this world but we must trust God to fulfill his purpose in our lives. Our faith would keep us patient to do God’s will and to receive what he has promised.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, preserve me in your love that my faith in you may grow and keep me faithful to you always. Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 307 – What is faith?

Faith is the power by which we assent to God, acknowledge his truth, and commit ourselves personally to him.
