GET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT

Thursday 4th September – Thursday of week 22 of the year

Reflection: Luke 5:1-11

GET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT

In today’s gospel reading, Christ told Peter, ‘lower your net for a catch’, and he replied based on his knowledge as a fisherman, ‘we caught nothing all through the night when we had better chances, but at your command I will do so’. Eventually, they were astonished at the catch of fish they made.

Out of nothing, God our Father created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them; and sustains them by His power (Genesis 1). Nothing exists except through Him. He is the source of life and it is in His power to give or to take. We, by virtue of our Baptism have become His adopted Children and heirs to the great possession of our Father. All we need to do to possess our inheritance is to maintain our position as His children – to please Him in all things.

However, many of us have misplaced our priorities, we chase after the possessions at the expense of pleasing our Father. We chase after money, power, fame and other pleasures of life. Dear friends, there is no need to chase after our Father’s possessions; all we have to do is live in a way that glorifies Him in our homes, schools or workplaces and He will add unto us our inheritance (Matthew 6:33).

Today let us decide to live for God in all we do; we can be sure that He will reward us.

PRAYER: Lord, grant me the grace, wisdom and boldness to live for you in always. Help me to seek first your kingdom and trust in your provision. Amen.

KNOW YOUR FAITH: CCC 290 – The totality of what exists (expressed by the formula “the heavens and the earth”) depends on the One who gives it being.

HIDE A TREASURE: “Seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and ALL other things will be added unto you” Matthew 6:33 CCB

Readings for Today: 1 Corinthians 3:18-23, Psalm 24:1-6, Luke 5:1-11
