Thursday 25th September – Thursday of week 25 of the year
Reflection: Ecclesiastes 1: 2-11
THE VANITY OF LIFE
The whole of life is vain if we do not allow God to put the essence in it. The labour of man is full of vanity if we fail to bring in Christ; as He alone gives true meaning to our lives and existence.
As Christians, realising that life by itself is vain; we always need to ensure that our lives are built on GOD. It is only in this way that we can make an impact on earth. Nothing can truly give us lasting happiness and satisfaction if not for the love we have in Christ.
Let us therefore, hold on to Christ, bearing in mind that “we were created for God; and our hearts find no rest until they rest in Him” (St Augustine). Let us focus on the things that are everlasting (2 Corinthians 4:18); as we walk through this life, let us seek to be the best we can with God’s help; and live with eternity in view.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father; let me always live in the consciousness that without you, life is all vanity so that I can build my trust in you. Amen.
KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 281 – Why do we yearn for happiness?
God has placed in our hearts such an infinite desire for happiness that nothing can satisfy it but God himself. All earthly fulfilment gives us only a foretaste of eternal happiness. Above and beyond that, we should be drawn to God.
