Friday 26th September – Friday of week 25 of the year
Reflection: Luke 9:18-22
WHO IS CHRIST TO YOU?
The manner in which we see the person of Christ determines the effect of the Christianity we profess. In the gospel reading today, it is reported that some people saw Jesus as John the Baptist, some saw him as Elijah, others saw him as one of the prophets who has arisen but Peter saw Jesus as “The Christ of God”.
It was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that Peter proclaimed that truth about his master. In the same vein, every Christian needs to be always inspired by the Holy Spirit in order to live a good and meaningful Christian life. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us insight into the person of Christ and His redemptive work for us.
We therefore need a deep understanding of the love of Christ in order to appreciate who He is to us. As we ask ourselves who Christ is to us, let us ask for the help of the Holy Spirit so that our minds will be enlightened to understand that Christ is our saviour, the lover of our souls; who cares for us and wants the best for us at all times.
PRAYER: Father, let me be able to understand that you love me and that you are the saviour of my life. Amen.
KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 74 – What does it mean to say that Jesus is “the only-begotten Son of God”?
When Jesus calls himself “God’s only-begotten Son” (or “only Son”, Jn 3:16) and Peter and others bear witness to this, the expression means that of all men only Jesus is more than a man.
HIDE A TREASURE: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only-begotten Son from the Father” John 1:14 RSV-CE
Readings for Today: Ecclesiastes 3:1-11; Psalm 144: 1-4; Luke 9: 18-22
