Friday 14th November – Friday of week 32 of the year
Reflection: 2 John 1: 4-9
TO LIVE IS TO LOVE
St. Augustine says that “God never gives less than himself”. This quote finds the peak of its expression in Christ Jesus; through whom God gave His very self that we may be saved (John 3:16). St John the Apostle in our reading today was joyful when found that his children in Christ are living in truth (2 John 1: 4). Despite our inadequacies, our lives can truly be worthwhile when it is lived in communion with the love of God. This love requires us to surrender all to God and trust him to lead us both in pain and in gain.
To love is to live according to God’s commands (2 John 1: 6); the commands He gives us im Scripture and the instructions we receive from Him in our dialogue with him in prayer and meditation. Our day to day lives can only have a deeper meaning when we allow the love of God to rule our hearts; a love that demands nothing less than our very selves; a love that leads us to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters (1 John 3: l6).
Dear friend, God asks you today: DO YOU LOVE ME? Our response determines the way we would live. Let us therefore respond to God through the needs of our neighbours and give ourselves away for God to work his wonders through us in our world. In these acts of love, we can then enjoy the presence of God as written in the scriptures: “Whoever loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and my Father and I will come to him and live with him” (John 14: 23).
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, help me to surrender all to thee. Help me to love you more and to give myself humbly to your service in my neighbour. Amen.
KNOW YOUR FAITH: YOUCAT 158 – What is heaven?
Heaven is the endless moment of love. Nothing more separates us from God, whom our soul loves and has sought our whole life long. Together with all the angels and saints we will be able to rejoice forever in and with God.
