Tuesday 2nd December – Tuesday of the 1st week of Advent
Reflection: Luke 10:21-24
THE INNOCENT MIND
Revelations from God are free gifts to mankind to give us direction. Yet only those with an innocent and open mind can truly have access to these revelations, understand them and use them appropriately. This is why Jesus says in today’s gospel reading that the mysteries of the kingdom of God have been hidden from the wise and clever and revealed to mere children. Children are known for their humility and innocence. Indeed many Christians are being deprived of these gifts because of hindrances such as guilt, pride, unforgiveness, etc.
The Lord requires us to have innocent minds like children; minds free from guilt and ready to receive His words in faith. Faith transcends human reasoning hence, our human wisdom is inadequate to grasp the revelation that God seeks to give us. Does it not surprise you that Hannah and Simeon recognised the infant Jesus when He was brought for presentation in the temple while the priests and teachers of the law failed to recognise Him. What was the difference? The former were deeply prayerful people whose hearts were open to the action of the Holy Spirit but the latter were not.
Beloved, what is preventing you from understanding God’s word? What is blinding your heart to the divine insight God seeks to give you? Is it sin, pride or negative habits? Let us examine ourselves today. Jesus says “…no one knows who the Father is except the son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.” (Luke 10:22). Let us open our hearts to God in faith and humility so that He may reveal Himself to us more and more and we may be transformed by His grace.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, please cleanse me from all pride. Help me to be open to the working of your Spirit and reveal yourself more to me each passing day. Amen.
