Friday 12th December – Friday of the 2nd week of Advent
Reflection: Isaiah 48:17-19
GOD OUR TEACHER
The thought of God as a “Teacher” might seem somewhat awkward. But God is indeed our Teacher! He says in today’s reading that He wants to teach us and direct us in the way we should go. (Isaiah 48:17). God is in fact the most excellent Teacher of all since He is the Eternal Wisdom and the Fountain of all knowledge. Inasmuch as God is willing to teach us, the question is: are we ready to be taught by God?
Through the prophet Isaiah, God laments today that we His children have suffered much because of our refusal to listen to Him. He recounts the blessings that would be ours if we had inclined our ears to His teaching. Nevertheless, it is never too late to begin to listen to God faithfully. How do you begin? First you must prioritize: you must seek the will of God in ALL you do. Ask yourself: “does this action or decision I am taking please God?”
Then, you must create a special time for Him daily: a quiet time. It is a time to be with God alone studying His word, listening to Him and making known your petitions. As you study His word, ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. He would open your mind to understand the Scriptures and give you the grace to live out what He teaches you. Starting this may not be so easy but the effort is worth it because once you begin to hear and obey the voice of God, then your life is set for bliss.
The Teacher is within us in the person of the person of the Holy Spirit. He is more willing to teach us than we can ever imagine. He will reveal both the good, the bad and the ugly parts of our lives in a loving manner so that we can be transformed. He will also direct us in our daily decisions if we ask Him to. Let us go to our Teacher daily and receive His saving wisdom for life and for eternity.
PRAYER: Thank you God my Teacher for being there all this while for me to come and learn from You. I am willing Lord, here I am, ready to be taught by You.
