Thursday 5th February – Memorial of St. Agatha, Virgin and Martyr
Reflection: Mark 6:7-13
THE MASTER’S WORK IS URGENT
Are you not surprised at the instruction Jesus gave while sending out His disciples in today’s gospel reading? He instructed them not to take bread, purse, money, or extra clothing as they went on their mission. As far as Christ was concerned, all these “basic” necessities could become distractions for them and delay or hinder the spread the good news; hence He revealed the urgency and seriousness with which the mission was to be carried out.
You and I, baptised Christians have been given the same mandate to evangelize by Christ. Like the disciples, Christ asks us to take this mandate seriously and not worry about our earthly needs but trust the Lord to supply them just as He did for the disciples. The Lord is ready to do even more for us if we can step out of our comfort zones in faith and preach the gospel.
Beloved in Christ, what is your excuse for not evangelizing? You cannot have a true encounter with Christ and fail to tell others about Him! Everywhere you find yourself – at home, in school, amongst friends, at work – is a fertile ground to sow seeds of the gospel by your words and actions. Make up your mind today in obedience to God to be a witness to Christ and watch Him supply all you need to carry out His mission.
PRAYER: Heavenly father, please help me to seek opportunities to evangelise by my words and example. Teach me to trust that You will supply my needs always. Amen.
